Principal's Message

Showalter principal Brett Christopher

Welcome to the 2024-2025 school year at Showalter Middle School! We are very excited to be heading into a new year as we continue to work to expand learning opportunities for our students. We would like to take this opportunity to inform you of important details, and activities that relate to kicking off the school year.

We especially want to welcome families of our new students - 6th graders and newly enrolling students. We know transitioning to a new school can be a confusing and stressful experience, and want to do all we can to help all students and parents feel welcome, informed, and supported here.

The first opportunity to visit our campus will be for 7th and 8th grade students who are new to our district. This will be on Tuesday, August 27th from 1:00-2:00 pm for 7th grade students new to Tukwila. The second opportunity, this time for 8th grade students new to Tukwila, will be the same afternoon from 2:00-3:00 pm. Counselors and administrators will be on hand to hand out schedules, answer questions and allow people to explore the building.

Our 6th grade students will be joining us for a full morning orientation hosted by our 8th grade Viking Crew at 9:00 am on the morning of Friday, August 30th.  We will meet with parents and students briefly in the commons. After that, 6th grade students will transition to the gymnasium to begin their day while parents will remain for a short time so that we can share key information. After that, parents will be free to leave and return at 12:00 to pick up their student.

I truly believe that great schools are the result of great teachers. My key focus is to continue supporting the teachers at Showalter Middle School and provide them with the tools they need to be successful and help your children learn and grow.

As a district and as a school, we are committed to the safety and well being of our students and staff.  With this in mind we are pleased to share that in addition to our current security staffing, we will be welcoming School Resource Officers (SRO’s) back into our building starting in September.

We look forward to listening to your ideas and vision for our school and collaborating with you to support our sense of community here at Showalter. Our first day of school is on Tuesday, September 3rd. Students may begin entering the building through the commons starting at 7:30 am and the school day begins with Homeroom at 8:00 am. Our Open House will be held on Thursday, September 19th at 6:30 PM in the Showalter Commons. We look forward to seeing you all for the start of this new school year!
